Convenient and Adventurous: Exploring Bangkok to Sam Roi Yot By Mini Van

Traveling between Bangkok and Sam Roi Yot or Hua Hin via mini van is a cost effective convenient and popular option for both locals and tourists alike. The journey takes you through some beautiful scenery, and the mini van provides a comfortable and efficient mode of transportation. Here, we will explore why this mode of travel is preferred by many, and some key aspects to consider when planning your trip.

Firstly, the mini vans that operate between Bangkok and Sam Roi Yot offer convenience and flexibility. They are readily available throughout the day, with frequent departures from various locations in Bangkok. Departure points include Mochit Mini Van Terminal, the Southern Terminal, Khao San Road, and Ekkamai. Some bus companies will take you to the door of your resort – see below. This makes it easier to plan your journey according to your own schedule. Additionally, the vans are equipped with air conditioning, ensuring a comfortable ride, especially during the hot and humid Thai weather.

The journey itself provides an opportunity to witness the diverse landscapes of Thailand. As you leave the bustling city of Bangkok, you gradually enter a more serene and scenic environment. The route takes you through picturesque countryside, with lush green fields, small farming communities, and occasional glimpses of the Gulf of Thailand. It’s a refreshing change of scenery from the urban sprawl of Bangkok, and allows you to appreciate the natural beauty of the country.

Mini vans also offer a cost-effective means of travel between Bangkok and Sam Roi Yot. Compared to private taxis or car rentals, which can be quite expensive, mini vans provide a budget-friendly alternative without compromising on comfort and safety. The fares are reasonable and affordable for most travelers. Moreover, the shared nature of the van allows you to meet fellow travelers and make new friends, making the journey more lively and enjoyable.

Safety is another important aspect to consider when traveling between these two destinations. The mini van operators prioritize the well-being of passengers and adhere to strict safety regulations. The drivers are experienced and knowledgeable about the route, ensuring a smooth and secure journey. The vans are regularly maintained, and seat belts are available for all passengers.

Mo Chit Van Terminal

While the journey itself is relatively short, lasting around three hours, it is advisable to plan for any potential stops along the way. Mini vans usually make a brief rest stop midway through the journey, offering an opportunity to stretch your legs and use the restroom facilities. It is also recommended to bring some snacks and water for the trip, as there might not be many food options available during the ride.

If you choose a mini van to Hua Hin, rather than one direct to your resort, and assuming that your choice for accommodation does not offer a transfer service (many do) then the best place to be dropped off (for onward travel to Sam Roi Yot) is the Clock Tower. There you will find many taxis who will take you the last leg of the journey to Sam Roi Yot, expect to pay around 1200 THB. The journey should take about an hour.

One company operating out of Mo Chit has a crocodile logo similar to the Lacoste brand. I have singled this company out because, for about ฿300 they will take you from Mo Chit Van Terminal (which is on the opposite side of the road to the bus station underneath the overpass) straight to your destination resort in Sam Roi Yot (and pick up from there on the way back). This negates the hassle and cost of transfers in Hua Hin or Pranburi and even if an extra seat is required for baggage it represents great value for money. The service starts at around 06:00 until around 17:00 and runs every hour, although if a van becomes full it may leave early, conversely it may hang around a little longer in the hope of collecting additional passengers if it is not already full at departure time.

Update Jan 2020I used this service last month and the Crocodile Bus Ticket Counter was located in Building D, which is on the right hand side of the compound as you look at it from the main bus station, adjacent to 7 Eleven. The Crocodile Bus tickets are available at Counter 11. The bus departed from Bay 50 which is just to the left of Building D if you exit at the rear.

When you purchase your ticket be sure to tell the person behind the counter that you want to travel on the Crocodile (pronounced “Cherokee” in Thai – as in the Native American Indian) Bus to Pranburi and also the resort that you would like to be taken to.

In conclusion, traveling between Bangkok and Sam Roi Yot via mini van is a popular choice due to its convenience, affordability, and scenic route. The vans offer a comfortable and safe means of transportation, allowing you to enjoy the journey and the beautiful countryside views. Whether you are a local or a tourist, this mode of travel provides a hassle-free experience, with the added benefit of meeting new people along the way. So next time you plan a trip to Hua Hin, consider hopping on a mini van and enjoy the ride!
